INSTITUTIONAL MESSAGE

Dear Alumni and friends!

The World Organization of Former Students of Catholic Education – OMAEC – attentive to all the social events that concern and worry us, expresses its profound pain and repulsion as a living movement of the Catholic Church, in the face of the painful reports of sexual abuse and paedophilia by members of the Church: We are ashamed and desolate in the face of so many victims, the damage caused to their families and social environment, by those who should have been guarantors of the care of the most vulnerable in the eyes of God and society; there are several countries that have made this atonement and the result has been more pain and suffering.

We therefore wish to express our support and closeness to the victims and their families, as well as our profound rejection of such practices that hurt our brothers and sisters and gravely offend God, both in action and in omission.

This sorrow also extends to all those consecrated men and women who, faithful to their vocation and calling, have given their lives out of love for the Lord; yet today they are unjustly treated and shamed, but in the midst of their sadness they ask for forgiveness; to them goes our fraternal greeting and prayer for perseverance in their mission.

We recognise the important efforts that Pope Francis has been making to eradicate these reprehensible practices; we ask that these efforts last over time and we commit ourselves as alumni of Catholic education to insistently ask the Lord of the harvest to send the best and holiest workers.

Alfonso Giraldo Saavedra

President OMAEC.
