PROVIDING A FUTURE FOR THE CHILDREN OF BOUGOUDANG

The World Association of Alumnae and Alumni of Sacred Heart – AMASC – has invited all its alumni, through their national associations, school associations, or in a personal capacity, to contribute to the project run by the Religious of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) in Bougoudang, in south-eastern Chad, a very poor rural area that lives mainly from agriculture and fishing, with no access to drinking water and a particularly inclement climate, and high illiteracy rates.

The Religious of the Sacred Heart are educators who have it in their hearts to help grow all those who have placed their trust in them, especially women and children. They arrived to Chad in 1964 to take care of young girls, starting by opening a school and later a high school in the capital N’Djamena, which today has more than 1000 pupils and is reputed to be one of the best schools in the country.  In addition, they run the professional agricultural college “Hope of Bougoudang”, where they aim to improve the situation in terms of: lack of classrooms, toilets, furniture and school materials, books, necessary renovation of existing structures, very low salaries for teachers, lack of training for teachers.

Consistent with the theme of the new mandate “Living the Sacred Heart Family Together”, AMASC made a special invitation to all its alumni and schools to include sponsorship or solidarity days in their Lenten activities, affirming that by adding their help to support the RSCJ, can improve their action.  The contributions will be coordinated through AMASC, and will also contribute to learning to know each other and joyfully experience in a concrete way what an international alumni association can achieve.
